[Gear][Help] Hario Scale

Hi folks. I have an 8 month old Hario scale - the type many of us use with a timer on the left and weight on the right (I'm too idle to go check the model number, but you all know it well). For the last couple of weeks I've not been sure that the weights are accurate. it seems slower to respond; removing beans and replacing the same beans might only give accuracy to within half a gramme. So:

1) how long do you get from your batteries? This is my first thought and a simple fix;

2) anyone know if this scale needs regularly recalibrating? If so, how? Finally,

3) I have been known to spill a little water on the scale - how waterproof is it?

Thanks in advance.
