Stove-top espresso is a lie

I've been using a Moka Pot for about three months now, but lately I've noticed it just does not get me jazzed. I'm usually ready to go back to bed by the time I'm drained the single bitter cup it produces. Yesterday I had drip coffee at a Diner. I had three cups and my hands were shaking. Now I've switched back to French Press, I'm halfway through my first cup, and my eyeballs have already started dilating.

Is there science to back any of this up? Am I just Moka Potting wrong? Considering the amount of coffee used in the M. Pot, it really makes almost no sense.
