I posted a month or so ago asking about coffee in the Dominican Republic. Well, I went over there and had a chance to visit a small coffee and cocoa plantation. They showed us the whole process, per usual, including how they roast the beans in something that looked like a large wok. I bought a small jar of beans - I figured six dollars, I may as well try it. The beans smelled like coffee, but once I got them home and ground them, I got almost a dirt smell. The smell of the brewed coffee is about the same - there’s nothing “robust” or anything. The overall taste is just weak coffee. So what have I got? Just a jar of stale beans?
