I currently have Bodum Chambord 34-oz, but its never used because I'm normally only making 8-16oz at a time. The plunger doesn't depress enough to do a half or quarter batch. Additionally, there seem to be some coffee grounds getting through, and while I bet the grind size is the key factor here, it led me to wonder about a mesh or silicone edge on the plunger being more 'sealed'.
So I'm looking for a new french press, but have two questions which I haven't seen answered anywhere else:
- What is a good 12-17oz french press with good plunger depression?; most articles always review the 34-oz versions
- What is the practical difference between a mesh edge and a silicone edge on the plunger?; does one or the other do a better job? The silicone could be better, but could grounds get wedged in it, ruining the seal?

Bodum Columbia 17-oz; this has a silicone edge, which I'm not sure is a good or bad thing... little pricey, but it looks to overall be a good buy. Appears very similar to the one used by a local coffee shop

Bodum Kenya 17-oz; or 12-oz; not sure what the real differences between the Chambord and Kenya are. Is the plunger better on one or the other?

Frieling 17-oz; a little pricey, but there is no plastic or glass, which is nice
Does anyone have experience with the presses listed above? Or can suggest better alternatives?
