I was away for 14 days and pained to be away from my beloved pump-driven espresso machine. After a late night return from the airport, in the morning I made a beeline for the kitchen and fired up the gizmo and had a delicious flat white. I made one for my wife when she awoke, too. When I pulled the machine out to refill the reservoir, I noticed weird brown schmutz floating in the water. Yick! Of course! That water had been sitting for 2 weeks...so I dumped it, cleaned the valve, and ran almost the whole reservoir of clean water through both the pump and the steam wand.
Later that day, both the wife and I had some highly suspicious farts and weird diarrhea. We were travelling in the US (from the US) and our kids had been eating all the same stuff as us with no symptoms...the coffee drinks were the only things we had that they didn't. Do you think I poisoned us with dirty espresso machine water?
PS - The milk was brand new.
