Very "bright" or tangy?

I got some Uganda (http://ift.tt/1U5xJBj) coffee from sweetmarias that I roasted. When drinking it, it's very tangy. It's definitely not an unpleasant taste, but is it supposed to be that way? I ask because my second batch of this was taken out in mid-second crack, and definitely has less of this tanginess (though still there).
I am using a French Press (and sadly a blade grinder, but a ceramic burr is coming in the mail soon!). I tend to roast a bit darker, yet I still notice a little of that brightness even then. Is this how diverse coffee is, or could it be something else? Thank you!
