How to easily get water to 80 degrees Celsius (without a thermometer)?

So, I'm trying to use some of the Aeropress World Championship winning recipes, and I noticed that almost all of them keep the temperature in the realm of 78-85 degress Celsius.

If I'm wanting to get my water to the desired temperature (80 degrees Celsius) without a thermometer, what is a good way to achieve this? I'm using an electric kettle that shuts off after the water reaches a boil.

Should I pour it into a cold container first? Wait a certain amount of time?
