Help me, r/coffee. You're my only hope.

I had a puzzling experience at a new coffee shop the other day and I'm hoping you folks can help me figure it out.

I ordered a quad espresso at the counter and the barista told me that I'd have to drink it on the premises, as they don't provide quad espressos to go. She did, however, offer me a "very dry americano which tastes almost exactly like a quad espresso" instead. I was in a rush so I took said very dry americano. It did not taste like a quad espresso. I didn't like it and ended up tossing the drink. It was hella acrid.

What would be the reason for not allowing a quad espresso to go? They had the cups, they had the equipment. I'm puzzled as I'm not as evolved in my coffee connoisseurness. Any thoughts?
